C30 Raptor at the Barcolana 48

Raptor was present in a tough Barcolana… Good job guys!

Raptor is 3rd in category at #Barcolana47!

#Barcolana47 ends with a good podium for Raptor! Third in category, in a crowded regatta with over 1.700 boats registered. The first place in category is escaped by a whisker….
The start isn’t one of the best: Raptor is closed between two big slow boats and blocked for several minutes… protesting is useless when there are in the race people that is there only to enjoy sailing and not to compete.

Finally when we get rid of these boats and we can hoist our powerful gennaker, we start running like bullets (top speed 17 kts!), gaining a lot of positions; we arrive at first mark around 200th place.

We start the upwind part of the race, we fill the ballast and we go on to gain positions and positions… amazing!
We arrive at the second mark around 100th place! With a winner tactic choice, we remain downwind compared to our competition, hoping in a wind jump… which arrives quickly! We hoist our Code 0 and we start planning before all the other boats around us and we gain further positions!

We’re around 50th place and we are at the head of our category! The crew is enthusiastic!
But the unforeseen happens: a very strong gust suddenly hits us and we cannot anticipate it… we broach and we stay with the mast and part of the gennaker in the water for a while! It’s enough for two of our competitors to overtake us…
Our final rank is 3rd in category and 70th overall; the podium is anyway a great satisfaction!

Good job guys and follow us!
